THE Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has foiled an attempted vandalism of critical infrastructure at its 330/132kV transmission substation in Bauchi.
The General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Bauchi.
“The Incident occurred at about 9:34 p.m. on Friday when security personnel at the substation intercepted suspected vandals attempting to remove transmission tower members.
“The suspects fled the scene on sighting the security personnel,” she said.
According to her, a search of the area led to the recovery of 12 transmission tower angle irons, a heavy-duty metal measuring scale and a white pickup truck believed to have been used in the operation.
She said that recovered items and the vehicle had been handed over to the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for further investigation.
Mbah added that no equipment was stolen and no injuries were recorded during the incident.
She commended the vigilance and prompt response of the security personnel, saying their swift action prevented the theft of and damage to critical electricity transmission infrastructure.
Mbah urged residents of host communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around power installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office to protect the nation’s power infrastructure. (NAN)
