THE Bishop of Lafia Diocese, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rev. Godwin Robinson, has urged political and community leaders to focus on addressing Nigeria’s challenges rather than engaging in blame games and divisive rhetoric.
Robinson made the call on Sunday in Lafia during the annual synod of the diocese, a two-day gathering devoted to prayers for the nation and discussions aimed at promoting spiritual growth and societal development.
He said that Nigeria was at a critical juncture where leadership must be defined by action, empathy and commitment to solving the country’s pressing problems.
“Nigerians are tired of lamentations. The challenges we face are real, but multiplying them through blame games, division and empty talk will not help us.
“Leaders at all levels must rise to the occasion, address the issues of insecurity, poverty, economic hardship, unemployment and national unity, and give the people hope,” he said.
The bishop urged leaders to place the welfare of citizens above political interests, stressing that governance should be viewed as service rather than entitlement.
According to him, leaders should work across political, ethnic and religious divides to provide practical solutions that would alleviate the suffering of the people.
“Stop multiplying the burdens of the people. Instead, multiply opportunities, multiply peace and multiply development.
“When leaders act with sincerity and the fear of God, the nation will heal faster,” he said.
Robinson also called for greater inclusiveness in governance, saying every ethnic and religious group should be given a sense of belonging to foster peace, stability and national cohesion.
He prayed for sustained peace and development in Nasarawa State and Nigeria, while commending citizens for their resilience amid prevailing economic and security challenges.
The cleric also lauded Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State for ongoing infrastructural development, particularly road projects in Lafia and other parts of the state.
“The situation of roads and other infrastructure in the state has changed significantly compared to what it was 10 years ago,” he said.
Robinson further advised Christians to complement prayers with diligence and hard work, noting that success could not be achieved through prayers and fasting alone.
“Every Christian should pray and also work hard and smart to succeed in his or her chosen endeavour,” he said.
