THE Campaign for Democracy and Human Rights Advocacy Civil Society of Nigeria, has commended the achievements of President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
The group attributed the achievements to the socio-economic reforms introduced by the government.
The organisation made the commendation in a communiqué issued to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja at the end of its 98th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Minna.
The communiqué was jointly signed by its Chairman, Dr Jabi Abdullahi and Secretary-General, Tayo Ibrahim.
The organisation congratulated Nigerians on 27 years of uninterrupted democracy (1999 to 2026) noting that in spite of governance and service delivery challenges, the current government’s socio-economic reforms were yielding positive results.
It also commended the president for redoubling efforts in the fight against insecurity and criminal activities, particularly the strides recorded by the Armed Forces in stemming violent incursions and other criminal activities in the country.
“ The battle against insecurity must be won collectively by sub National Government and Federal Government because it seems to be heightened now, allegedly politically motivated as a weapon in the hands of enemies to destroy the 2027 General Elections,” it said.
The group expressed concern over the conduct of political party primary elections in the country, describing the consensus arrangements and the imposition of candidates by party leaders as troubling developments.
It stated that such practices could result in apathy among party members, voters and the electorate in the build-up to the 2027 general elections and might constitute a threat to democratic consolidation in Nigeria.
It commended the Niger State Hydrological, Flood and Erosion Management Project Coordinating Unit and Disaster Risk Reduction Agency.
The group also commended the State Emergency Management Agency, CSOs and other stakeholders for early action to reduce flood risks and disasters that could lead to displacement and loss of property.
“We urgently call on the government of Niger State, Gov. Umar Bago to resolve issues surrounding victims of flood disaster in 2025 (Rebuilding of Housing Projects) and compensation of victims’ families financially at Mokwa and Bida Local Government Areas,” it said. (NAN)
