Media personality Daddy Freeze has responded to criticism over his choice of outfit at the service of songs for late actor Alex Ekubo.
The broadcaster explained that he wore black to the event because he did not notice the white-only dress code stated on the invitation.
The service of songs was held in Lagos on June 10, 2026, as friends, family members, and colleagues gathered to honour the late Nollywood actor.
Broadcaster admits dress code mistake
Speaking during an Instagram Live session, Daddy Freeze acknowledged that wearing black did not follow the instruction given by the organisers.
He said the dress code information was placed in a part of the invitation that he overlooked.
According to him, his choice was based on his personal understanding of mourning traditions and not an attempt to disrespect the family.

The media personality also spoke about his feelings regarding the actor’s passing, describing it as a painful loss.
He said Alex Ekubo’s death was difficult to accept because of the actor’s age and the opportunities he believed were still ahead of him.
Daddy Freeze added that while he respected people’s views about death and faith, he personally felt the actor’s passing came too soon.

The outfit controversy has attracted discussions online, with some Nigerians criticising Daddy Freeze while others supported his explanation.
The broadcaster later apologised to anyone who felt offended by his decision, insisting that he did not intentionally ignore the family’s wishes.
