The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers allegedly linked to a series of robbery attacks in Ughelli and its surrounding communities.
The suspects, identified as Moses Francis, 29, and Cosmos Erueseke, 26, were apprehended by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Vice Squad in collaboration with members of a local vigilante group following credible intelligence.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to Edafe, the operation was carried out on June 14 in the Okorodafe area of Ughelli, where Francis was arrested at about 4:30 p.m.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that Francis was allegedly involved in several robbery incidents in the area, including an attack along Aro Street in April 2026.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to participating in a number of robbery operations and subsequently led operatives to a hideout where another suspected gang member, Cosmos Erueseke, was arrested at about 5:40 p.m. on the same day,” the statement read.
Edafe said both suspects are currently in police custody, while efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the gang and recover weapons allegedly used in their operations.
In a related development, the command recovered a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs after a driver abandoned a vehicle during a stop-and-search operation along the Ozoro/Oleh Expressway.
According to the police spokesman, operatives intercepted a Toyota Sienna with registration number FST 242 YK at about 4 a.m. on June 14.
He said the driver fled into a nearby bush during questioning, abandoning the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of substances suspected to be illicit drugs, including codeine, tramadol, Swinol, Man G and Vega.
Edafe said the recovered exhibits had been taken into custody, while investigations were ongoing to identify and arrest the fleeing suspect.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
