The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected reports suggesting internal divisions within its ranks, insisting that the party remains united and fully committed to preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The clarification came from Habibu Mailemo, spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and a member of the NDC, who addressed concerns surrounding recent discussions about party structures, candidate selection, and internal political activities.
His remarks come amid growing speculation over alleged disagreements within the party, particularly in Kano State.
Party Activities Not a Crisis, Says Mailemo
Speaking during a television interview, Mailemo maintained that what some observers have described as a crisis is simply part of the normal democratic process that accompanies political competition.
According to him, every political party experiences debates, consultations and disagreements during election preparations, especially when candidates are emerging for future contests.
He stressed that the NDC has established mechanisms for resolving differences and ensuring that the party continues moving forward as a united political platform.
Commitment to Party Unity
Mailemo also defended the role of the Kwankwasiyya Movement within the party, describing the group as disciplined and committed to party regulations.
He said members of the movement remain focused on strengthening the NDC and supporting efforts aimed at building a strong political structure ahead of the next general election.
According to him, loyalty to party rules and constitutional procedures remains a core principle of the movement.
Candidate Selection Followed Due Process
Addressing concerns surrounding party primaries and candidate emergence, Mailemo stated that due process was followed throughout the exercise.
He explained that primaries were conducted nationwide according to schedule and were preceded by consultations and consensus-building efforts involving stakeholders.
The spokesperson added that the names of successful candidates have already been submitted to the appropriate party authorities in line with electoral requirements.
He insisted that no significant complaints were raised during or immediately after the exercise.
Reports of Crisis Dismissed
The NDC official further argued that reports of internal conflict only surfaced after the completion of the party’s primary process.
He maintained that recent discussions about party leadership, structure and political arrangements should not be interpreted as evidence of a breakdown within the organisation.
According to him, the party remains focused on strengthening its internal processes and preparing for future electoral contests.
Attention Turns to 2027 Elections
With political activities gradually gathering momentum across the country, the NDC says its primary objective remains building a strong platform for the 2027 elections.
Party leaders believe maintaining unity and adherence to internal regulations will be essential as preparations continue ahead of the next electoral cycle.
For now, party officials insist there is no crisis within the NDC and that efforts remain concentrated on positioning the organisation for future political success.
