France captain Kylian Mbappe has moved ahead of German legend Miroslav Klose on the FIFA World Cup all-time goalscoring chart after another impressive display at the 2026 tournament.
The Real Madrid forward scored twice as France secured a 3-0 victory over Sweden to book a place in the Round of 16.
His latest brace also strengthened his position in the race for the tournament’s Golden Boot.
France star edges ahead of Messi
Mbappe has now recorded six goals and two assists at the ongoing World Cup, placing him ahead of Argentina captain Lionel Messi in the Golden Boot standings.
While both players have scored six goals in the tournament, Mbappe’s two assists give him the advantage over Messi, who is yet to register an assist.
The two football stars have also overtaken Klose’s previous World Cup goalscoring record during the competition.

Following France’s victory, the all-time World Cup goalscoring standings are now:
- Lionel Messi (Argentina) – 19 goals
- Kylian Mbappe (France) – 17 goals
