The Kaduna State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Efeke Murna Dadaza, has appealed to the Kaduna State Government to provide a permanent orientation camp and improve the welfare of corps members serving in the state.
Dadaza made the appeal on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course held at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, Government College, Kaduna.
She said the requests had become necessary to improve the quality of facilities at the camp and enhance the wellbeing of corps members throughout their service year.
The state coordinator disclosed that a rainstorm accompanied by strong winds on June 23 damaged the roofs of about a dozen buildings used by the NYSC at the temporary orientation camp, calling for urgent intervention by the state government.
“We humbly seek your urgent intervention in the renovation of the buildings at the temporary orientation camp. There was a heavy rainstorm with strong winds which blew off the roofs of about a dozen buildings assigned to NYSC, and as I speak, the roofs are still open,” she said.
Dadaza also appealed for the provision of additional iron bunk beds and mattresses, augmentation of feeding allowances during orientation, enhanced welfare packages for corps members at their places of primary assignment, and the establishment of a befitting permanent orientation camp for Kaduna State.
She commended the Kaduna State Government, security agencies, traditional institutions and camp officials for ensuring a peaceful and successful orientation exercise.
Addressing the corps members, Dadaza urged them to be disciplined, innovative and respectful while integrating peacefully with their host communities.
She also encouraged them to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, stressing that the skills acquired could transform them into employers of labour.
Representing Governor Uba Sani at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Gloria Ibrahim, urged the corps members to see their deployment as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of Kaduna State.
She said the orientation programme had equipped them with discipline, resilience and a deeper appreciation of Nigeria’s diversity, urging them to uphold those values throughout their service year.
The governor assured the corps members of his administration’s continued commitment to their welfare and security, saying the state would sustain its collaboration with the NYSC, security agencies and host communities to provide a conducive environment for national service.
He also called on employers in both the public and private sectors to mentor corps members and assign them meaningful responsibilities that would enhance their personal and professional development.
Sani further advised the corps members to complete the post-camp SAED training, noting that practical skills had become essential in today’s economy and could enable them to establish successful businesses after service.
He thereafter declared the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course officially closed and urged the corps members to serve with courage, integrity and excellence as worthy ambassadors of Kaduna State and Nigeria.
