Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Njoku has called on Christians in Nigeria and across Africa to complement prayer with practical action in addressing societal challenges.
In a post shared on her Instagram page, the actress argued that while prayer remains important, physical problems require tangible solutions, planning, and accountability.

According to her, issues such as insecurity, poor infrastructure, inadequate healthcare, and economic hardship cannot be solved through prayer alone.
“Physical problems require physical solutions. Spiritual problems require spiritual solutions,” she wrote.
Njoku explained that even basic necessities such as food depend on human effort and systems working effectively.
“You cannot pray food onto your plate. Someone has to plant it, harvest it, transport it, cook it, or provide the means for you to get it yourself.”
The actress further noted that development is achieved through deliberate action rather than faith alone.
“Good roads, quality healthcare, education, security, and economic growth will not appear simply because we pray about them. Prayer can guide us, strengthen us, and give us wisdom, but physical problems must also be addressed with physical action, planning, accountability, and hard work.”
While reaffirming her belief in prayer, Njoku stressed that faith and action should work together rather than be seen as opposing concepts.
“Dear African Christians, as we continue to pray, let us not confuse prayer with action. You cannot bind and cast away bad roads. You cannot rebuke a failing healthcare system into working. You cannot pray away the bandits who are terrorising our lives.”
She concluded by emphasizing that meaningful progress requires both spiritual commitment and practical efforts from citizens and leaders alike.
“Faith and action are not enemies. They work together,” she added.
Njoku’s remarks add to an ongoing public debate about the role of faith, governance, and civic responsibility in tackling Nigeria’s security and development challenges.
