A gang of armed bandits have abducted a nine-year old boy, Victor Olaosebikan, and destroyed several properties following an attack on a community in Ondo State.
The assailants were said to have stormed the area in the early hours in the morning, firing gunshots sporadically to instill fear, forcing residents to flee for safety safety which the victim was whisked away, causing unrest in the area.
Witnesses said that the attackers invaded the Ugbosi Quarters in Idogun community, Ose Local Government Area at about 1:30am on Friday, as confirmed by the abductee’s father Isaac Olaosebikan, who was said to have narrowly escaped into the bush, leaving his son behind in the chaos.
Residents were said to have fled the environment of the incident as the bandits damaged his home, after which reports were later sent to the police prompting immediate security response.
Security operatives alongside the Amotekun Corps have since combed the surrounding forests and likely escape routes in a bid to rescue the abducted child and apprehend the perpetrators.
The Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, said, “The Command is also working closely with other security agencies and local vigilante groups to ensure that the criminals are brought to justice.”
This incident highlights the growing insecurity in rural communities, where residents remain vulnerable to violent raids.
The coordinated police response aims to reassure the public that efforts are underway to rescue the victim unhurt and restore calm to Idogun.
