The Lagos State Government has sealed a night club and a hotel over offence of persistent violation of it’s environmental laws by the facilities.
The government through it’s Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, disclosed that the establishment indulged in persistent noise pollution, neglecting several warnings by the government, adding that the enforcement reaffirms it’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws and ensuring protection of the residents from harmful nuisances
While sealing the establishments which include, Westgate Arena Club in Olowora and Dave Premium and Suites in Alapere, Ketu, LASEPA General Manager, Babatunde Ajayi, said that the establishments failed to comply with several abatement notices and other regulatory directives issued by the agency to address recurring environmental violations.
Ajayi mentioned that the offences, particularly noise pollution, has continued to generate complaints from residents and pose risks to public health and community well-being.
According to him, both establishments had repeatedly breached permissible noise limits despite earlier warnings and enforcement notices, leaving the agency with no option but to seal the premises in line with the provisions of the state’s environmental protection laws.
The agency’s head also said that the agency remained resolute in its mandate to safeguarding public health and ensure a cleaner, safer, healthier and more sustainable environment across Lagos State.
He stressed that compliance with environmental regulations was a shared responsibility, warning that the agency would not hesitate to sanction individuals and organisations that disregard established standards.
According to him, “Environmental compliance is a collective responsibility. Individuals and corporate organisations must adhere strictly to environmental laws and regulations.
“LASEPA will continue to intensify enforcement actions against violators to curb environmental nuisances and protect residents from the harmful effects of pollution.”
He urged residents, business owners, and operators of hotels, clubs, lounges and other hospitality and entertainment establishments to adopt environmentally responsible practices, comply with regulatory requirements and work closely with relevant authorities to foster a cleaner, healthier and more livable Lagos.
