UNGOGO Local Government Council in Kano State, has inaugurated a committee to tackle drug abuse, thuggery, and phone snatching in the area.
The Council’s Chairman, Alhaji Tijjani Amiru-Bilyaminu, inaugurated the committee on Thursday in Ungogo during a stakeholders’ meeting involving traditional rulers, security agencies, and community leaders.
A statement from the council Information Officer, Usman Muhammad, said the meeting chaired by council boss discussed strategies for enhancing peace and security in the area.
Amiru-Bilyaminu emphasised that the fight against social vices requires the active participation of all stakeholders, including parents, religious leaders, and community members.
The committee comprising District Heads, Village Heads, and representatives of security agencies, was tasked with developing strategies to prevent criminal activities and strengthen community surveillance.
The Chairman also announced plans to modernise Bachirawa Main Market, which he said has become a frequent hideout for criminal elements within the local government area.
According to him, the modernisation project aims to improve security, boost commercial activities, and create a conducive environment for legitimate business operations in the market.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to support the committee by providing timely information on criminal activities.(NAN)
