A man has recounted how a routine trip on a commercial mini-bus, commonly known as korope, ended in loss of personal belongings after he forgot his charger and power bank in the vehicle and has been unable to recover them five days later, despite repeated attempts to reach the driver in Lagos State.
The incident occurred after the passenger boarded the vehicle to transport chairs and a table, agreeing on a fare before voluntarily adding extra payment in appreciation of the driver’s effort.
However, the situation changed when he later discovered that his belongings had been left behind, leading to a series of calls and promises that have yet to be fulfilled.
A routine trip that turned costly
The man described the journey as initially smooth, noting that he had no reason to suspect any issue until he realized his items were missing after arriving home.
The inability to retrieve the items has since turned into frustration over what he describes as a broken promise of return.
“I boarded one korope to pack some chairs and table and they charged me 10k. To appreciate his efforts, I paid him 15k instead,” he said.
Lost belongings and unanswered calls
He added that initial communication with the driver gave him hope, but the situation later changed as attempts to recover his items became unsuccessful.
“When I got home, I discovered I forgot my cord and power bank in the car. He promised to bring them the next day, but it’s been five days now and he is not picking my calls,” he stated.
Back in 2023, similar complaints about lost items in commercial transport vehicles in major Nigerian cities sparked public debate on trust, accountability and passenger responsibility, with many commuters sharing experiences of misplaced belongings and difficulty tracking drivers after trips.
The incident has since triggered online discussions about everyday transport reliability in urban Nigeria, with users divided between cautioning passengers to be more careful and calling for better accountability among commercial drivers.
