The police have arrested 57 suspects over allegations of theft, Illicit drug use and creation of public nuisance in Adamawa State.
The police command, in an intensified campaign to curb criminals from weaponry theft in resident’s home and shops, arrested the suspects as part of ongoing efforts to rid communities of criminal elements and enhance public safety, restore peace and security.
The arrests were announced on Tuesday in Yola by the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, who explained that the suspects were apprehended during coordinated operations targeting criminal hideouts and black spots across Jimeta and Yola metropolitan areas.
“In continuation of efforts to rid communities of criminal elements and enhance public safety, a coordinated operation was carried out in identified criminal hideouts and black spots within Jimeta and Yola metropolitan cities. The operation yielded positive results with the arrest of fifty-seven suspects,” the statement read.
Recovered during the operation were various dangerous weapons and suspected banned substances, which the police confirmed had been documented and would be presented as evidence in court during prosecution.
The command emphasized its determination to pursue justice and deter further criminal activity.
The arrests mark a significant step in the fight against Shilla gangsterism, with the police reiterating their commitment to protecting residents and ensuring that communities across Adamawa State remain safe from youth gangs and other criminal threats.
