Galatasaray Plans No.9 Shirt, Captaincy Role For Osimhen

Turkish champions Galatasaray are reportedly planning a major move to convince Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen to remain at the club ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The club is expected to offer the Nigerian forward the famous No.9 shirt as part of efforts to make him the central figure of their future plans.

Osimhen has been wearing the No.45 jersey since joining Galatasaray from Napoli because Mauro Icardi has occupied the traditional striker number.

No.9 shirt becomes available

With Icardi’s contract expected to end this summer, Galatasaray are set to make the No.9 shirt available for Osimhen.

The move is viewed as a symbolic gesture aimed at showing the Nigerian striker his importance to the club.

Osimhen has attracted interest from several European giants, including Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea.

Club considers captaincy for Nigerian striker

Beyond the shirt number, Galatasaray are also considering giving Osimhen a leadership role by handing him the captain’s armband after Icardi’s departure.

Club officials reportedly see the Nigerian forward as one of the most influential figures in the dressing room.

The move is part of a wider strategy to strengthen Osimhen’s connection with the Turkish club.

Osimhen remains key player for Galatasaray

Galatasaray signed Osimhen permanently from Napoli in a record deal worth €75 million.

The club has reportedly placed a high valuation on the striker amid growing interest from top European teams.

Since joining the Turkish side, Osimhen has played a major role in their success, helping them secure consecutive Süper Lig titles.

The forward has continued to produce impressive numbers, contributing goals and assists across domestic and European competitions.
