Alexx Ekubo’s Wife Shares Emotional Tribute After Actor’s Death

The wife of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, Anwuli Ekubo-Okwareke, has shared an emotional tribute reflecting on their relationship, memories and the impact he had on her life.

The tribute, published in the funeral programme during his burial activities in Abia State, highlighted their bond, shared faith and the difficult moments they experienced together.

She described the actor as her “sunshine” and “answered prayer,” recalling how their relationship grew through years of love, friendship and family connection.

‘You were my anchor’

In the tribute, Anwuli revealed that Ekubo supported her during one of the most painful periods of her life following the death of her mother.

She wrote that the actor stood by her during that difficult season and gave her strength when she needed it most.

According to her, adjusting to life without him has remained challenging.

She also recalled the special names and private jokes they shared, describing them as signs of the deep connection they built over time.

Anwuli reflected on how Ekubo’s relationship with his family also became part of her own life.

She said the actor’s love for his relatives was something she admired and promised to continue supporting the family they shared a bond with.

She also remembered their playful conversations, especially their private jokes and conversations in Igbo, which she described as a unique part of their relationship.

Anwuli said their relationship was built around prayer, trust in God and spiritual growth.

She described Ekubo as someone who influenced many people through his faith, kindness and personality.

While mourning his death, she expressed hope that he is now at peace and remembered the actor as someone who touched many lives.

Nollywood mourns Alexx Ekubo

Alexx Ekubo died on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40, following complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

His death was announced by his family, who described his health battle as brief but courageous.

The actor was widely known for his contributions to Nollywood, appearing in several popular films and becoming one of the industry’s recognisable faces.

His remains were laid to rest in Arochukwu, Abia State, where family members, friends and colleagues gathered to honour his life and career.
