African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has said his detention will not stop his efforts to mobilise Nigerians following a court order sending him to the Kuje Correctional Centre.
The Federal High Court in Abuja ordered Sowore to remain in custody until Wednesday after his bail was revoked.
The order was issued by Justice Mohammed Umar after the court dismissed Sowore’s request for the judge to withdraw from the case.
Court case linked to DSS allegations
The case involves allegations by the Department of State Services (DSS) over comments reportedly made by Sowore regarding President Bola Tinubu.
The court’s decision followed proceedings after Sowore’s bail was revoked over his absence from a previous court sitting.
Activist reacts to imprisonment
Following the ruling, Sowore said he was prepared for the development and insisted that his activism would continue.
He stated that his time in detention would be used to further engage and mobilise supporters.
“I’m going to prison to keep mobilising our people. I came prepared,” Sowore said.
He added that sacrifices are sometimes necessary in the pursuit of causes he believes will benefit the country.
Sowore explains absence from court
The AAC candidate explained that his earlier absence from court was related to consultations with his legal team.
According to him, his lawyers had informed the court that he was away discussing the matter with his counsel.
Sowore maintained that the detention order would not weaken his commitment to his political and advocacy activities.
“Imprisonment has never defeated a just cause, and it never will,” he said.
