INEC Restores David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola On ADC Portal After Supreme Court Ruling

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reinstated David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola on its official portal as national chairman and national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The update, seen on Thursday evening, follows a ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on the party’s leadership dispute.

INEC had earlier removed the Mark-led executive from its website in early April. It said the action was based on a decision by the Court of Appeal of Nigeria linked to the ADC leadership crisis.

The dispute centres on competing claims to the party’s leadership between the Mark-led faction and Nafiu Bala, a former national vice-chairman of the party.

Earlier on Thursday, the Supreme Court directed Mark to return to the Federal High Court of Nigeria for the hearing and determination of issues arising from the crisis.

In a unanimous judgement, a five-member panel of the apex court led by Mohammed Garba faulted the decision of the Court of Appeal. The appellate court had ordered parties in the case to maintain status quo ante bellum.

Following the Supreme Court’s ruling, the ADC page on INEC’s website has now been restored, showing the full list of the party’s leadership led by Mark.
