Former Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Aminu Abdulfatah, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) for the 2027 election following a consensus decision by party stakeholders.
The PRP disclosed that Abdulfatah secured the ticket after consultations and deliberations among aspirants, resulting in a unanimous agreement to present him as the party’s flagbearer for the governorship race.
According to a statement issued by the party yesterday, the consensus arrangement reflected the unity and collective resolve of members to rally behind a candidate they believe can provide an alternative leadership option for Kaduna State.
The party described Abdulfatah as an experienced politician and administrator with more than four decades of involvement in politics and public service, highlighting his previous service as Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, also noting that he served as the pioneer chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education, Jama’are.
It added that he had occupied several leadership and advisory positions in public institutions and organisations, and also emphasized that Abdulfatah played significant roles in strengthening democratic governance, promoting legislative stability and contributing to policy development during his tenure in the state assembly, all making him a credible figure for his emergence at the position.
Furthermore, the party argued that the state requires leadership focused on addressing insecurity, unemployment, economic challenges and governance concerns rather than pursuing political interests.
It maintained that Abdulfatah’s emergence signals the beginning of efforts to rebuild public confidence and advance inclusive development across the state.
The party expressed confidence in its chances at the polls, declaring that it is united and prepared to democratically seek power in the state.
“The people of Kaduna State deserve leadership with experience, courage, competence and compassion, and the PRP is ready to provide exactly that,” the statement said.
