2027: IEPAC backs Tinubu’s re-election bid, endorses Mustapha for Kwara governorship

The Ilorin Emirate Political Advisory Council (IEPAC) has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027 and declared Senator Saliu Mustapha as its preferred candidate for the Kwara state governorship election.

The council announced its position at a press conference in Ilorin on Friday, stating that the endorsements followed consultations among stakeholders in Kwara Central.

The National Coordinator and Secretary of IEPAC, Dr. Yakub Yahaya Oloriegbe, and Lt. Col. Abubakar Edun (retd.), respectively, said the decision to support Tinubu was based on his “administration’s efforts toward national development and attention to the region.”

On the 2027 governorship race, the council identified Mustapha as the most suitable candidate, citing his experience in public service and representation at the National Assembly.

It noted that his political background and engagements within the ruling party placed him in a strong position ahead of the election.

IEPAC also said its endorsement was not intended to exclude other aspirants but to provide direction on leadership considerations.

It thus urged political actors in the state to prioritise unity and stability as preparations for the election gathered momentum.

The development came as political activities are gradually building up towards the 2027 general elections.
