Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, has been unanimously chosen as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Benue State in the 2027 elections.
The decision which took place on Sunday in Makurdi the Benue State capital followed a three-week consensus process involving 11 aspirants, party leaders, elders, and stakeholders.
The exercise was overseen by former Governor Samuel Ortom, Senate Minority Leader Patrick Abba Moro, State Chairman of PDP Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Adaji, and other influential groups including the G-14 and G-9 elders.
All 10 co-contestants affirmed the outcome, pledging their support for Aondoakaa. Among them were Prof. Dennis Ityavyar, Rt. Hon. Dominic Ucha, Revd. Tor Uja, Dr. Tersoo Loko, Prof. Sebastine Hon, SAN, Dr. Oyije Ogbenjua, Commander Ode Ojowu (Rtd.), Engr. Tor Tiv Ato, Simon Ater, and Chief Bemgba Iortyom, Esq.
Chief Ortom praised the aspirants’ unity and urged them to prioritise the state’s interests, stressing the need to unseat Governor Hyacinth Alia in 2027..
The senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro described the consensus as a difficult but necessary step to provide leadership for Benue.
In his acceptance speech, Aondoakaa pledged to unify the party and build a strong campaign structure.
He expressed gratitude for the honour of flying the PDP flag, promising to deliver value to the electorate if elected.
