The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has coordinated the distribution of relief materials to communities affected by a severe windstorm in Ajaokuta and Ogori-Magongo Federal Constituency of Kogi State.
The intervention followed approval by NEMA Director-General, Zubaida Umar, for the release of relief items aimed at providing humanitarian support and easing the hardship faced by victims of the disaster.
According to a statement from NEMA’s Abuja Operations Office on Wednesday, a four-member monitoring team was deployed to supervise the exercise in line with the agency’s standard operating procedures to ensure transparency and accountability.
The distribution, held at the Otunba Richard Ayeni Civic Centre in Ogori, was carried out in collaboration with the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (KOSEMA), security agencies, community leaders and other stakeholders.
Items distributed included 500 bags each of 25kg rice, beans and maize, 100 cartons each of vegetable oil, seasoning cubes and tomato paste, as well as 100 bags of iodised salt and 200 bags of cement.
Speaking on behalf of Kogi State Governor, the Executive Secretary of KOSEMA, Mukhtar Atima, commended NEMA and the Federal Government for the timely intervention, noting that it would help cushion the impact of the disaster and support recovery efforts in affected communities.
Similarly, the Chairman of Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area, Hon. Goke Oparison, alongside community leaders and beneficiaries, expressed appreciation for the prompt response and humanitarian support.
They said the intervention reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to assisting disaster victims and supporting vulnerable communities to rebuild their lives.
NEMA reaffirmed its commitment to providing timely humanitarian assistance and supporting recovery efforts in disaster-affected communities across the country.
