Insecurity: Rep. Aguocha tasks constituents on surveillance

Politics

REP. Obi Aguocha (LP-Abia) has tasked his constituents on the need for surveillance, vigilance and swift report of unusual movements to security agencies.

Aguocha who represents Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, made the call while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.

The lawmaker who doubles as chairman, House Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation of House Standing and Ad Hoc Committees, said that the South-East geo-political zone must be vigilant not to be taking unaware.

He said though the security of lives and property is the major responsibility of government, the people needed to be vigilant.

Aguocha said that the call became necessary following activities of bandits and other criminal elements across the country.

He, however, urged the Federal Government to consider granting the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who is serving life imprisonment, amnesty.

According to him, it will not be improper for the government that has granted amnesty and pardon to terrorists not to extend the same gesture to his constituent, Kanu.

Aguocha, urged the people in the zone to continue to remain calm and peaceful while efforts were made to address the issue of Kanu, security challenges and alleged marginalisation of the zone.
