Obi: No Unjust arrest, molestation under my government

Presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has promised that Nigerians will not suffer arbitrary arrests or molestation if elected president in 2027.

Obi said his administration would uphold the rule of law, respect the Constitution and guarantee citizens’ freedom to live and conduct their businesses without fear.

The former Anambra State governor stated this on Sunday while speaking on the Global Digital Town Hall.

He said Nigerians needed a president who would obey the law and remain accountable to the people, rather than operate above them.

Obi said, “As president, nobody will be arrested unless the person does the wrong thing. Nobody will be molested. Everybody will live.”

He added that his administration would make law and order supreme while protecting the lives and freedoms of citizens.

“We need a new Nigeria where the law and order will be supreme. Where respect for other people’s lives will be guaranteed.

“Where people can live freely, go about their businesses and their professions and their lives, knowing fully well that the government is their own government.

“The President, I repeat, must lead in the front,” Obi said.

The NDC presidential candidate said his record in private life and as governor of Anambra State should give Nigerians confidence in entrusting him with their mandate.

He also disclosed that the party would work with support groups and movements to win the presidency and other elective positions in the 2027 elections.

Obi urged Nigerians who still believed in the possibility of a better country not to abandon the struggle for change.

“Many millions are still staying with the cause and I urge them, please, do not give up,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to mobilise and participate actively in the 2027 elections, saying their votes could determine the difference between leadership committed to public service and governance that failed to meet citizens’ expectations.

“So come out and vote, so that people will see a difference between where a leader is committed and is prepared to serve the people, which is what we are committed to,” Obi said.
