President Bola Tinubu has commended security agencies for the successful rescue of 15 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and six other Nigerians abducted last week in Kogi State.
The 21 victims, comprising eight males and 13 females, were rescued from a kidnappers’ den in the forests of Ofu Local Government Area of the state through a joint Search and Rescue (SAR) operation involving personnel of the military, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilantes.
Reacting to the successful rescue in a statement shared via social media on Monday, Tinubu expressed delight over the safe recovery of the corps members and other abductees, describing them as innocent and law-abiding Nigerians who had been abducted by criminal elements.
The President said the rescued victims are currently receiving medical attention before they are reunited with their families and loved ones.
Tinubu, however, disclosed that security forces have continued their pursuit of the fleeing kidnappers, directing them to sustain pressure on criminal elements and bring those responsible for the abduction to justice.
He warned that anyone found to have participated in the crime or aided the kidnappers would face the full weight of the law, stressing that security agencies would continue efforts to dismantle criminal networks across the country.
The President also commended the combined SAR team for its courage and dedication in securing the release of the victims, while appreciating their families and loved ones for their patience and understanding throughout the ordeal.
Tinubu reassured parents and relatives of NYSC members across the country that his administration remains committed to protecting their lives and property, as well as ensuring that Nigerians can travel across the country without fear.
