The Police have arrested five members of a robbery gang accused of terrorising communities in Adamawa State and it’s environs.
The robbers were identified as Nura Aliyu, 20; Abubakar Adamu, 21; Abubakar Muhammed, 23; Abdulhameed Yusuf, 18; and Yusuf Husseini, 20 were apprehended after police operatives acted on intelligence linked to an armed robbery incident after which five machetes were rrcudegedly connected to the gangs activities were recovered.
It was gathered on Wednesday that the arrest took place yesterday around Masallashi Biyu in Kofare, Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued to newsmen.
He said the suspects were allegedly members of the Shila group, a term used to describe gangs associated with street violence, extortion and robbery.
According to the police, the arrests followed actionable intelligence received over the reported robbery, enabling operatives to move against the suspects.
The recovery of five machetes has also been recorded as part of the evidence gathered during the operation.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Hassan, has ordered that the suspects be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for detailed investigation.
The police said the investigation would determine the suspects’ level of involvement before they are prosecuted in court.
