The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has nabbed two suspects, Sadiq Muhammad and Destiny Joseph, over their attempt to unlawfully traffic two minors in Kano State.
The NSCDC informed that it received a report from a family member of one of the victims after which its operatives of the agency apprehended the suspects, Abdulahi, 25 years, and Joseph, 18, who have been held in custody.
A statement released by the body’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdulahi, stating that the duo were nabbed at Wailari area, adding that they both confessed to the crime during prosecution.
Abdulahi mentioned that the detainees lured the minors of age 10 and 12 with a promise of money and gifts, a false presentation with the intention of trafficking them to another part of the country for ritual purposes.
The PRO stated that Muhammad took photographs of the victims in an attempt to establish contact with a trafficking syndicate, and added, ”However, the plan was uncovered after a family member of one of the victims became suspicious and promptly reported the matter to the NSCDC office in Walari, leading to the arrest of the two suspects at their residence.
The State Commandant, Mohammed Agalama, directed the Gender Unit to conduct a thorough investigation into the case and unravel circumstances of the incident and identify other persons who may be connected to the incident.
Agalama commended the family for the prompt report of the incident, urging the residents on the importance of making such report promptly as well as community vigilance as part of efforts to curb child trafficking, abduction and other forms of exploitation.
He added that the matter would be handed over to the state’s zonal Command of the national agency for legal enforcement.
