Just In: Super Eagles Head Coach Chelle Names Ozebagbe, Ortega, Olympic Eagles Assistants

By Samuel Akpan

Eric Chelle has appointed Bright Ozebagbe and Deniran Ortega as assistant coaches for Nigeria’s Olympic football side.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) announced the appointments in Abuja on Tuesday.

Kola Daniel, Special Assistant on Media in the office of the NSC Director General, confirmed the appointments in a WhatsApp message to PerSecondNews correspondent, adding that Chelle remains Super Eagles head coach and also leads the Olympic Eagles.

Chelle described the pair as among Nigeria’s brightest young coaches with impressive profiles.

According to him, he is delighted to work with them on the Olympic project.

Ozebagbe is Technical Adviser at Premier League club Ikorodu City.

The side narrowly missed a continental ticket on the final day of last season.

Ortega, who holds a UEFA license from the Scottish Football Association, currently serves as an assistant coach for Nigeria’s Flying Eagles.

Meanwhile, Chelle has briefed National Sports Commission (NSC) leadership on qualification strategies, with camping scheduled to open soon in Abuja ahead of the November 2026 Olympic qualifiers.

The NSC oversees both the men’s and women’s Olympic football teams, targeting not just qualification, but a podium finish at the Los Angeles Games.
