Nigeria’s D’Tigress suffered a disappointing start to the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup after losing 99-81 to South Korea in their opening Group B match in Berlin, Germany.
The African champions struggled to contain South Korea’s attacking play, with their opponents building control of the contest through sustained offensive pressure and maintaining the advantage for much of the game.

D’Tigress attempted to stay within reach as the match progressed, but Nigeria could not produce the response needed to close the gap.
South Korea eventually secured an 18-point victory, leaving Nigeria with an early setback in their campaign.
The defeat also continued D’Tigress’ difficult record against Asian opposition at the World Cup and means Nigeria are still searching for their first victory in an opening match at the global tournament.
Nigeria must now turn their attention to their next Group B fixture against Hungary.
A victory in that match will be crucial for D’Tigress as they attempt to recover from their opening defeat and strengthen their chances of advancing to the knockout stage.
