Nigerian Army troops have rescued a mother and her daughter after the pair escaped from a terrorist camp in Borno State.
The two victims fled their captors before troops intercepted them while they were making their way to safety.
According to the woman, she had allegedly been forced into marriage by the terrorists in 2025 during her captivity.
It was gathered on Thursday that the rescue took place at about 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday near the Huje terrorist camp in the Mandara Mountains area of Borno State. The woman is an indigene of Chinene.
Following their rescue, the troops of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion provided immediate protection to the mother and her daughter.
The pair were later transferred to the authorities at the Pulka Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Gwoza Local Government Area for further assistance.
The development highlights the risks faced by civilians living around the Mandara Mountains, where terrorist activities have contributed to abductions, displacement and other forms of abuse.
Meanwhile, military forces have continued operations in the area to disrupt terrorist movements and free civilians held in captivity.
The rescued mother and her daughter are expected to receive humanitarian assistance at the IDP camp as they begin to recover from their ordeal.
