Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Abdul El-Sayed want you to forget all the lunatic stuff they and their buddies said a few years ago — because, you see, “Woke 1 was crazy.”
That’s what the Bronx Bolshevik said on Sunday when she was asked about fellow DSA member Francesca Hong, running for governor of Wisconsin.
Hong has a colorful (mostly deleted) Twitter feed, ranging from demands to cancel Thanksgiving to hating white people to eliminating the police.
But AOC suggests we should overlook all these radical statements, because they emerged from the turmoil of 2020, when everybody (supposedly) drank deep from the crazy pond.
El-Sayed, Michigan’s Dem nominee for US Senate, doesn’t want to address any of the nutty things his endorser and pal Hasan Piker has said, such as calling Oct. 7 victim reports of sexual violence “rape fantasies,” praising 9/11 as America’s just deserts or calling for the streets to run red with landlord blood.
We need to move beyond “gotcha politics,” frets Abdul: “We’re so stuck in cancel culture that all of us agreed was a bad idea back in 2020.”
Hmm: If the lefties think that the cancel culture they imposed was a “bad idea,” or that “Woke 1” was crazy, does that mean they no longer hold those opinions?
Well, no: The only real difference between Woke 1 and Woke 2 is the extra antisemitism, added after El-Sayed’s Hamas buddies invaded Israel, slaughtered over a thousand innocents and started a war by kidnapping several hundred others.
Oh, Woke 2 is also a tad more circumspect: Hong talks up shifting funds toward “community initiatives” and “noncarceral approaches to crime prevention” — still exactly what the #Defund crew demanded, but with the obviously idiotic part muted.
El-Sayed has lied repeatedly about his old “defund” comments (mostly wiped from his social media history), claiming they were “clickbait.”
That’s true — people would likely click on his radical statements if they were still up, to get a sense of who he is and what he thinks; heck, he doesn’t even really disown the sentiments.
Indeed, El-Sayed has recently rationalized the attempted bombing of a Michigan synagogue by mourning that “hurt people hurt people.”
And he’s still explicitly on the 2020 “abolish ICE” bandwagon, plus the radical call to outlaw private health insurance and double taxes on the middle class (as it would take) to fund Medicaid . . . err, Medicare . . . for All.
The hard left keeps demanding that we ignore wacky stuff they said just five years ago.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani got away it with last year; House candidate Darieliza Avila Chevalier did this year.
AOC can laugh all she likes at how crazy “Woke 1” was — but the joke’s on anyone who buys it, because when the opportunity strikes, Woke 2 will be worse.
