The Nigerian Army has detained two soldiers for allegedly providing unauthorised security at the wedding ceremony of social media personalities Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and Jarvis, held in Lekki over the weekend.
As learnt, the soldiers, identified as Privates Onasanya Ifeoluwa and Ukpai Onyinyechi, are attached to the Nigerian Army Medical Services and Hospital in Obalende, Lagos.
Their detention was confirmed by the spokesperson for the 81 Division, Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, who said the two personnel were taken into custody yesterday.
The soldiers were detained after videos from the wedding circulated widely on social media, showing them in military uniform carrying out security duties and escorting guests at the event.
According to sources, preliminary investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the deployment and whether other military personnel were involved.
The action against the soldiers follows the Nigerian Army’s longstanding policy prohibiting its personnel from undertaking private security assignments or participating in deployments without official authorisation.
