Troops Nab 4 Suspected Lakurawa Terrorists, Recover 6 Rustled Cows in Sokoto Market
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have arrested four suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group and recovered six rustled cattle during a targeted operation at Darusa village market in Sokoto State.
The operation, conducted on August 6, 2026, followed credible intelligence indicating that suspected terrorists had infiltrated the market to dispose of cattle allegedly rustled from communities in the area.
Acting on the intelligence, the troops conducted a coordinated operation at the market and successfully identified and apprehended four suspects allegedly linked to the Lakurawa group.
Items recovered from the suspects included six cows suspected to have been rustled, two mobile phones and ₦165,000 in cash.
The suspects were identified as Usman Bammo, 45, of Huss Village, Gudu Local Government Area, Sokoto State; Muhammadu Dage, 25, of Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State; Ali Usman, 23, of Binji Local Government Area, Sokoto State; and Abubakar Garba, 30, of Silame Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
The suspects are currently in military custody undergoing preliminary interrogation.
The military said the suspects would be handed over to the relevant security agencies for further investigation and prosecution upon completion of the preliminary inquiry.
The operation forms part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt terrorist activities, recover stolen livestock and strengthen security across the region.
