Troops Ambush Lakurawa Terrorists, Recover Motorcycles, Communication Devices in Kebbi

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an alleged attempt by members of the Lakurawa terrorist group to attack a community in Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The troops, deployed for counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations in the state, acted on credible intelligence regarding the movement of the terrorists towards Ugwan Hassan village.

According to the operational report, the troops swiftly mobilised and established a tactical ambush at a known crossing point near the community, where they intercepted the terrorists.

The troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their planned mission and retreat in disarray.

During an exploitation of the encounter site, the troops recovered items reportedly used by the terrorists for logistics and communication. The recovered items included two motorcycles, mobile phones, T&T communication radios and a Nigerien identity card belonging to one of the fleeing suspects.

The identity card was reportedly issued to an individual from the Tillabéri Region of the Republic of Niger.

The military said troops have continued to dominate the general area through aggressive patrols and are pursuing the fleeing terrorists to prevent them from regrouping and to ensure the safety of residents.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops are also expected to sustain surveillance and counter-terrorism operations in the area as security forces intensify efforts to disrupt the activities of terrorist and bandit groups operating across the region.
