A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kalu Kalu, has renewed questions over the academic credentials of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He alledge that the President’s educational records contain inconsistencies and issues that warrant further scrutiny.
Kalu, a lawyer and prominent member of the opposition party, made the claims on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
The opposition Chieftain spoke on the credentials submitted by presidential candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
The ADC chieftain argued that the information available in President Tinubu’s records has continued to generate controversy, particularly following previous legal battles and requests for academic documents linked to the President.
According to him, “Everything about President Bola Tinubu’s certificate is shrouded in forgery. Today, what do we have in Tinubu’s records? There is no information as to his primary school or his secondary school.”
Kalu said concerns surrounding Tinubu’s academic history became more pronounced after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar sought access to records from Chicago State University in the United States during the legal disputes that followed the 2023 presidential election.
He stated that documents released during the process raised questions about information allegedly supplied by Tinubu during his admission into the institution.
“Our presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar approached the United States to ask for Tinubu’s academic records from the Chicago State University, and when the records were released, we found shocking revelation from those documents,” Kalu said.
The ADC chieftain further alleged that Tinubu claimed in university records to have attended Government College Lagos and graduated in 1970.
“Tinubu committed false entry into Chicago State University that he attended Government College Lagos and graduated in 1970.
“When we now did a search, we found out that the Government College, which he claimed he attended, was indeed established in 1974, four years later than when he said he graduated from the school,” he alleged.
Kalu also questioned the authenticity of a General Certificate of Education document allegedly submitted during the admission process.
“Secondly, from the document released from the Chicago State University, Tinubu submitted GCE certificate from Cambridge University, which was also found to be false. So everything about Tinubu’s certificate is shrouded in forgery,” he said.
The lawyer further pointed to records previously submitted by Tinubu during earlier elections, claiming there were differences in the schools listed over the years.
According to him, “Tinubu contested an election in 1999. He deposed on oath that he attended one primary school, Saint Paul’s Primary School in Ibadan. He also deposed an affidavit that he attended government college in Ibadan. There is no information as to his primary school and his secondary school.”
Recall that questions surrounding the President’s academic records featured since the 2023 election, with opposition parties repeatedly raising concerns over documents submitted to INEC.
However, Tinubu and his supporters have consistently maintained that he attended Chicago State University and graduated from the institution.
The issue has also been the subject of court proceedings both in Nigeria and the United States.
