Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has apologised to fans and event organisers after withdrawing from his celebrity boxing rematch against actor Charles Okocha following the opening round.
The apology came after Friday night’s contest, organised by Balmoral Group, ended unexpectedly when the street-hop artiste declined to continue the fight, leaving spectators disappointed.
In a statement released by his management, Zeh Nation/Dr Zeh, the singer expressed regret over the outcome and acknowledged the frustration felt by supporters and stakeholders.
The management apologised to Balmoral Group, members of the organising team, fans, friends and everyone who attended the event, describing the conclusion of the bout as unfortunate.
It also appealed to the public to respect Portable’s decision, noting that emotions can run high during competitive events.
According to the statement, the management accepts full responsibility for the incident and appreciates those who continued to support the singer despite the controversy.
The organisers were equally commended for successfully putting together the celebrity boxing event, while the team apologised for any inconvenience caused by the abrupt ending.
The statement added that lessons had been learnt from the experience and assured fans that Portable would return better prepared for future contests.
The rematch had attracted widespread attention after Charles Okocha activated the rematch clause following his defeat to Portable in their first celebrity boxing showdown in December 2023.
In the build-up to the event, both entertainers traded insults on social media and promised to settle their rivalry inside the ring.
The bout also represented an opportunity for Portable to bounce back after suffering his first celebrity boxing defeat earlier this year against content creator Carter Efe.
Instead, the contest ended after just one round, sparking widespread reactions online and prompting the singer’s management to issue a public apology.
