Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested two women for allegedly transporting 551 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition in a major operation targeting illegal arms trafficking.
The suspects were apprehended following an intelligence-led operation, with investigators expanding the probe to identify and arrest other members of the suspected criminal network.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed the arrest on Monday while highlighting the operational successes of state police commands across the country.
He said the operation, carried out on Saturday in Nasarawa State, also led to the recovery of 10 loaded AK-47 magazines and additional ammunition.
According to Iniedu, the suspects confessed during interrogation, providing investigators with useful leads that have prompted an expanded investigation to uncover other members of the arms trafficking network.
The police spokesperson said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for further investigation.
Iniedu reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to tackling the illegal proliferation of arms and ammunition, assuring Nigerians that intelligence-led operations would continue to dismantle criminal networks and strengthen public safety across the country.
