Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, following his victory in the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Tuesday, Davido said the governor faced significant political opposition during the election but still emerged victorious.
The singer described the contest as a difficult battle, claiming that the people of Osun State resisted what he characterised as intimidation during the electoral process.
“Osun State people stood their ground despite all the intimidation. We fought a battle, in fact, it was a war,” Davido said.
He also highlighted the number of APC political figures who campaigned against his uncle, saying Adeleke’s victory was achieved despite opposition from 17 governors and about 50 members of the National Assembly.
“When you have 17 governors and 50 senators and House of Representatives against one man and he still came out victorious, God is good,” he added.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner of the election after he defeated APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji.
Adeleke secured 511,067 votes across 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 444,815 votes in 11 LGAs, according to the declared results.
Davido had openly supported and campaigned for his uncle before the election, making his reaction to the outcome another public expression of his support for the governor.
The result gives Adeleke another term in office after a closely contested election that attracted significant political attention across the state.
