The Plateau State Government has imposed an immediate dusk-to-dawn curfew on Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas following emerging security threats in the affected communities.
Under the directive, movement will be restricted between 6:00pm and 6:00am daily, effective Monday, until further notice. The government also banned the use of motorcycles across the three local government areas with immediate effect.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, announced the measures in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the statement, the curfew is aimed at maintaining public order, protecting lives and property, and giving security agencies room to stabilise the affected areas and prevent a breakdown of law and order.
Residents of the three local government areas were urged to comply with the directive and plan their commercial, agricultural and personal activities around the curfew hours to avoid unnecessary inconvenience.
The government directed security operatives to strictly enforce the curfew and motorcycle ban across the affected jurisdictions.
“The measure is to allow law enforcement agencies to stabilise the area, protect lives, and prevent any breakdown of law and order within local communities,” the statement said.
While assuring residents of their safety, the government said security personnel deployed to enforce the restrictions would carry out their duties professionally and in accordance with established rules of engagement.
The state government appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to restore peace and security in the affected local government areas.
