The federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s strategic partnership with Israel as the country’s newly appointed ambassador to the State of Israel, Amb. Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu, formally assumed office after presenting her Letters of Credence to Israeli President, Isaac Herzog.
Amb. Ufochukwu presented her credentials to President Herzog at an official ceremony in Jerusalem on Monday August 3, 2026, marking the commencement of her diplomatic assignment as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Israel.
The presentation of the Letters of Credence formally authorises the envoy to represent Nigeria in Israel and signals the beginning of a new phase of diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
In a statement by the ministry of Foreign affairs, the federal government said the development reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthening the longstanding cordial relations between Nigeria and Israel through enhanced bilateral cooperation.
Speaking after the ceremony, Ambassador Ufochukwu unveiled her agenda for the mission, pledging to deepen collaboration in sectors considered critical to the economic and social development of both countries.
She said her tenure would prioritise expanding cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture, technology, security, innovation and cultural exchanges, while also promoting stronger people-to-people ties between Nigeria and Israel.
The envoy reiterated her commitment to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives through closer engagement with Israel in areas of mutual interest, expressing confidence that stronger partnerships would create shared opportunities for growth and sustainable development.
The federal government expressed optimism that Amb. Ufochukwu’s appointment would further consolidate the strategic partnership between the two nations and open new avenues for mutually beneficial cooperation.
It noted that the ambassador’s mission would contribute to strengthening diplomatic relations while advancing Nigeria’s economic diplomacy agenda through increased collaboration in key sectors.
Nigeria and Israel have maintained diplomatic relations for decades, cooperating in agriculture, technology, healthcare, security, education and capacity development. Israel is widely recognised for its expertise in agricultural innovation, water management and technology, areas that align with Nigeria’s drive for food security, economic diversification and sustainable development.
The renewed emphasis on trade, innovation and investment also reflects the federal government’s broader foreign policy direction of leveraging diplomatic missions to attract investments, facilitate technology transfer and deepen strategic international partnerships.
With Amb. Ufochukwu now formally accredited, attention is expected to shift from ceremonial diplomacy to the implementation of initiatives capable of translating the renewed commitment into tangible gains for both countries, particularly in trade, agriculture, security, technology and innovation.
