NAF Precision Airstrike Dismantles Terrorist Enclave, Kill 12 Insurgents in Borno
The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI has recorded another major operational success after a precision airstrike destroyed a concealed terrorist enclave in Borno State, killing about 12 insurgents and crippling the group’s logistics infrastructure.
Security sources disclosed that the operation was conducted on Aug. 4 following credible intelligence indicating renewed terrorist activities around Chiralia, a densely forested area that insurgents have long exploited as a hideout because of its difficult terrain and natural cover.
According to the sources, an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform was deployed at about 11:40 a.m. to conduct an armed reconnaissance mission over the area.
During the mission, surveillance operators observed several suspected terrorists moving within the enclave and identified multiple concealed structures hidden beneath thick vegetation. The facilities were assessed to be serving as operational shelters, logistics hubs and staging areas for terrorist operations.
After confirming the targets, the ISR platform maintained continuous surveillance while transmitting real-time intelligence and precise target coordinates to the strike aircraft.
The attack aircraft subsequently carried out a series of precision strikes, scoring direct hits on the identified targets and destroying the concealed structures.
A Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) conducted immediately after the operation confirmed that the terrorist camp had been completely destroyed, with the life-support facilities reduced to rubble.
Military sources said approximately 12 terrorists were neutralised during the strike, while secondary explosions and sustained fires indicated the destruction of additional weapons, supplies and other equipment stored within the enclave.
The sources described the operation as a carefully coordinated, intelligence-driven mission that underscored the growing synergy between airborne surveillance assets and the precision strike capabilities of the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI.
They noted that the successful operation would significantly degrade the operational capability of the terrorist cell by denying it a safe haven, disrupting its logistics network and limiting its ability to regroup and launch further attacks.
According to the sources, the airstrike forms part of the military’s sustained offensive campaign to identify and destroy terrorist sanctuaries across the North-East, particularly in remote forested areas where insurgents continue to seek refuge after suffering repeated setbacks from joint ground and air operations.
While noting that the overall security situation across the theatre remains relatively calm, the sources cautioned that the operating environment remains fluid due to the unpredictable movement of terrorist elements.
They, however, reaffirmed that troops of Operation HADIN KAI remain highly motivated, combat-ready and committed to sustaining offensive operations until terrorist enclaves are dismantled and lasting peace is restored across the North-East.
