No fewer than 27 students of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi State, have been withdrawn over poor academic performance and failure to register for two consecutive semesters.
The decision was approved by the university’s Senate at its 166th Regular Meeting after considering the report of the Results Verification Committee, which reviewed the academic standing of students across various faculties and departments in line with the institution’s Academic Regulations.
In a statement issued on Monday, the University’s Public Relations Officer, Uredo Omale, said the affected students were drawn from the Faculties of Arts and Humanities, Education, Management Sciences, Social Sciences, and Medicine and Surgery.
According to the statement, 11 students were withdrawn for failing to meet the minimum academic requirements, while 16 others forfeited their studentship after failing to register for two consecutive semesters.
Among those withdrawn for poor academic performance were students from the Departments of English and Literary Studies, Public Administration, Sociology, and Health Science.
Others affected by the non-registration sanction were enrolled in English and Literary Studies, Business Administration, Social Science Education, Human Kinetics and Health Education, Arts Education, and Banking and Finance.
Commenting on the development, the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Salisu Usman, commended members of the Results Verification Committee for their diligence, objectivity and commitment to maintaining the university’s academic standards.
He reaffirmed the Senate’s resolve to uphold academic excellence, discipline and quality assurance, stressing that while the university would continue to provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning, students must also remain committed to their studies and comply with the institution’s academic regulations.
Usman urged continuing students to stay focused, make effective use of the opportunities provided by the university and strive for excellence in both character and learning.
The university also directed the affected students to surrender all university property in their possession, including their identity cards and other official items, to the security unit before exiting the institution.
