Abducted Kebbi State High Court judge, Justice Faruku Bunza, has regained his freedom one week after he was kidnapped, bringing an end to days of uncertainty over his safety.
His release has brought relief to his family, colleagues and well-wishers, who had anxiously awaited news of his whereabouts throughout his captivity.
A family member confirmed the development on Monday, saying the judge had returned home safely and was in good health.
“We are in jubilation and full of gratitude to God for bringing our own back safely. He has finally returned home after spending one week in captivity,” the family member said.
The family also expressed appreciation to the Kebbi State Judiciary, security agencies and residents of the state for their prayers, support and solidarity during the ordeal.
“We sincerely appreciate the Kebbi State Judiciary, the security agencies and the entire people of Kebbi State for their prayers, sympathy and unwavering support.
“Your concern strengthened us during this difficult period, and we remain grateful,” the source added.
The family, however, declined to disclose the circumstances surrounding the judge’s release, saying details would be made public at a later time.
“Other details regarding how he regained his freedom will be disclosed later,” the source said.
Justice Bunza was abducted by gunmen last week in Kebbi State, an incident that triggered widespread concern within the legal community and renewed calls for improved security and his unconditional release.
As of the time of filing this report on Monday, neither the Kebbi State Judiciary nor security agencies had issued an official statement on the circumstances surrounding his release.
