A 38-year-old Islamic teacher, Sagir Sani, has been remanded in prison custody over allegations of committing sexual assault and defilement in Adamawa State.
Sani was remanded during his trial in a Magistrates’ Court over an alleged offence of the act two minors of ages eight and nine, on charges bordering on indecent treatment, sexual assault and defilement, as submitted by Police Prosecutor, Zakka Musa.
Musa on Tuesday held that the accused, who teaches at an Islamic school in Numan Local Government Area took the two girls to a secluded area behind the school classrooms, where he allegedly sexually assaulted them during Quranic classes.
He said that the mother of one of the alleged victims reported the incident at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Numan, on August 7, 2026.
When the charges were read and explained to Sani, he pleaded not guilty.
Following his plea, Musa applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to forward the case diary to the state Department of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The court granted the application and ordered that Sani be remanded pending further proceedings.
