Popular Nigerian dancer and entertainer Iweh Odinaka, known as Poco Lee, is reportedly being held in the United Kingdom on remand and is due to appear before a London court in September over an alleged assault.
Benjamin Kuti, also known as the Oluomo of Derby and founder of a Nigerian community organisation in the UK, disclosed this in an interview on Monday.
Kuti said Poco Lee is expected to appear before Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 15, 2026, at 10am, where he is expected to participate in a plea hearing.
Poco Lee reportedly on remand
According to Kuti, Poco Lee is currently being held in a UK prison pending the next stage of the legal proceedings.
He said his knowledge of the case came from his regular attendance at court proceedings and his involvement in supporting Nigerians facing legal issues in the UK.
“I can confirm that the reports are true. Poco Lee is currently on remand in a UK prison,” Kuti said.
He explained that a plea hearing generally provides an opportunity for an accused person to indicate whether they intend to plead guilty or not guilty to the allegations.
Kuti also said he intended to attend the proceedings to offer support to Poco Lee as a member of the Nigerian community in the UK.
He stressed, however, that the legal process should be allowed to run its course and that the dancer should be presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
“It is important that we allow the legal process to take its course. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” he said.
Details of alleged offence remain limited
Reports about Poco Lee’s alleged detention in the UK began circulating online on August 19.
However, the early reports did not publicly identify the alleged complainant or provide detailed circumstances surrounding the reported incident.
There was also no initial independent confirmation from UK police or the court concerning the reported arrest.
Checks to confirm the court proceedings were reportedly still ongoing at the time of the original report, with an email sent to the court yet to receive a response.
As a result, the allegations against Poco Lee remain subject to the UK legal process, and the entertainer has not been convicted of any offence based on the information available.
