The Kano State Censorship Board has sealed a tradomedical firm over immoral advertisements deemed offensive and contrary to public decency standards.
The board said the enforcement action targeted Kausar Unique Empire, popularly known as “Back to Back”, after authorities concluded that its promotional materials violated regulations governing commercial advertising and failed to meet accepted moral and cultural standards.
According to the board, the firm’s advertisements contained indecent expressions and explicit illustrations circulated across social media platforms, prompting widespread concern among members of the public.
“The advertisements violated the cultural values, moral standards and established regulations guiding commercial promotions in the state,” the board’s spokesman, Abdullahi Sani-Sulaiman, stated in a statement issued yesterday.
He explained that the decision followed intelligence reports and numerous complaints from residents who raised concerns about the nature of the firm’s online marketing campaigns and their potential influence on society.
“We will not tolerate the circulation of materials that offend public decency or undermine the moral fabric of society,” Sani-Sulaiman stated, warning businesses against using digital platforms to promote offensive or objectionable content.
The spokesman stressed that the board remains committed to ensuring that advertisements comply with existing laws and ethical standards.
He added that traditional medicine practitioners and other business operators must conduct their promotional activities responsibly.
Furthermore, he disclosed that similar enforcement actions had been taken against other businesses found to have breached the state’s advertising regulations, describing the measures as part of a broader effort to encourage responsible marketing practices.
According to the board, it will continue working with relevant stakeholders to monitor advertising activities, curb unethical promotions and safeguard public morality.
