The Corpers’ Journey Advocacy Network (CJAN) is set to address issues around youth participation, innovation and policy at the International Youth Day Summit Nigeria 2026, organised by the United Nations Youth Association-Nigeria (UNYA-NG).
The virtual summit, scheduled to hold today, Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. WAT via Microsoft Meet, is being held to commemorate International Youth Day under the theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
The summit’s official concept note identifies Global Solidarity, Shared Challenges and Youth Innovation as its three interconnected sub-themes, with emphasis on the common aspirations of young people across different social, economic and geographical contexts.
CJAN Founder and Director of Youth Advocacy and Policy at the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Amb. Taiwo Ajayi, is among the speakers expected to contribute to the summit’s conversations on the role of young people in governance, policy engagement, innovation and sustainable development.
Ajayi is expected to highlight the need for young people to move beyond being viewed simply as beneficiaries of development and become active participants in shaping policies and decisions that affect their lives.
The International Youth Day 2026 concept note emphasizes that young people are not passive beneficiaries but important contributors to sustainable development, with their leadership, innovation and lived experiences requiring recognition and support.
Against this background, the CJAN perspective is expected to focus on strengthening youth advocacy and creating meaningful pathways through which young people can translate their experiences and concerns into constructive engagement with institutions and policymakers.
Ajayi is also expected to speak on the importance of youth innovation, particularly the ability of young people to develop practical solutions to challenges within their communities.
The summit’s concept note recognizes that young people across different communities are increasingly using digital tools, social enterprises and grassroots initiatives to respond to local challenges and strengthen community resilience.
The discussion will also come against the backdrop of challenges affecting young people, including unequal access to quality education, youth unemployment and insecure work, limited digital connectivity and barriers to meaningful participation.
According to the concept note, these challenges increasingly transcend national borders, although young people experience them differently depending on their circumstances. This underscores the need for coordinated responses informed by young people’s lived experiences.
For CJAN, the engagement provides an opportunity to reinforce the importance of youth-led advocacy, civic participation and community-driven solutions, while encouraging young people to see themselves as active contributors to national development.
The summit is expected to bring together young people, youth advocates and other stakeholders to explore practical ways of strengthening solidarity, addressing shared challenges and supporting youth-led innovation.
The 2026 International Youth Day theme ultimately calls for a more inclusive and equitable approach to youth development, recognizing the interconnectedness of young people’s experiences and the need for collective action to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to thrive.
