A gang of gunmen has kidnapped two farmers and demanded the sum of N10 million for their release, causing an upheaval within families of the abductees and community at large.
The armed men were said to have invaded the farmers while they were working in their farm and were whisked into a forest, pressuring their families to make the demand as negotiation for their release or await the demise of the victims
The Ondo State Police Command, on Friday, stated that the duo were abducted in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area, after which a distress call was made to the security agency at the Oke-Igno Division, and has commenced search for a safe return of the hostages.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Jimoh Abayomi, said that a joint effort has begun with the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Amotekun personnel, local hunters and vigilantes to launch the rescue mission.
”An intelligence-driven efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims unhurt and bring those behind the abduction to justice,” Abayomi said.
He urged the inhabitants of the community to remain calm and always provide credible information that could aid the rescue operation, adding that the Police is keen on making sure that banditry and other forms of terrorism is alleviated in the area.
