A Plateau State High Court has rejected a request by Auwalu Abubakar, a suspect in the Angwa Rukuba massacre case, to be transferred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for medical treatment.
Abubakar, also known as Auwalu Dogo, had asked the court to order his transfer from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) to JUTH for medical attention.
He is standing trial alongside Isa Ibrahim, Adamu Alhassan and Musa Ibrahim, also known as Yaroro, over their alleged involvement in the Easter 2026 Angwa Rukuba massacre in Plateau State.
The four suspects were arrested by the DSS following investigations into the killings, after which the Plateau State Government filed terrorism-related charges against them before the state High Court.
Ruling on Abubakar’s application on Tuesday, Justice Gedeliah Fwomyon said medical examinations had been conducted on the suspects following their arrest and that the results showed they were medically fit for detention.
The judge said the court could not grant the request based on documents that had not been presented before it.
According to Fwomyon, Abubakar’s application was not supported by a medical report or other evidence establishing the need for his transfer to JUTH.
“Motion of the defendant is hereby refused and dismissed for failure to establish sufficient factual foundation upon which the relief is sought,” the judge ruled.
Following the ruling, the court adjourned the case to October 15 and 21, 2026, for further proceedings.
