Louis Edem, organiser of the Louis Edem West Africa Basketball Championships on Friday, expressed satisfaction at the level of performance by teams at the ongoing championships.
Edem told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview in Lagos that the teams had performed credibly well, especially at this year’s event which was an all elite women basketball teams affair.
According to him, since inauguration of the tournament’s first edition in 2023, it has been an-all men affair, noting that he was happy to involve the elite women teams to compete for honours as well.
“This is the first edition we are involving women and it has been great so far and a highly explosive competition.
“It is tough hosting the championships, like you well know, we do not have any partners. So, I am doing everything in terms of logistics, planning and others.
“I have an amazing team who work with me that put in all their effort. But it would be nice to have some partnerships, get corporate bodies to partner with us.”Edem said.
Also speaking, Richard Bosa, representing the Ghana Braves, described as exciting, the opportunity to participate at the competition.
He said tournaments like this helped teams get the much needed experience playing far way from home.
“It is an honour to be in Nigeria to compete in the championships, which has brought the best out of the participating teams.
“We look forward to more invitation and hope the competition will get bigger at every coming edition,”Bosa said.
Meanwhile, in the semifinal games decided on Friday, First Bank defeated Ghana Braves 68-35, while Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) defeated Victoria Queens 52-39.
The final game which is set to be explosive would have MFM clash with their city rivals, First Bank.
This would take place at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, starting by 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The organisers said the final match was among other programmes lined up to conclude week long event.(NAN)
